Graffiti

Graffiti is a part of youth culture everywhere. Up until a few years ago it didn’t seem so obvious. It’s been popping up more and more in busy public places and is getting way too offensive.

This is the BC Hydro walkway they built a few years ago, it's rarely looked after and very poorly maintained :

The following can be seen in and around the marked area:

This is a prime example of 'dipper writing'

I remember reading this sign when the walkway first opened. It warns about the dangers of feeding wildlife and what can happen to birds and how the rodent population can increase. As you can see now, you can't read anything. Maybe some baba was behind it, one who could read English and thought the sign infringed on his right to feed the birds leftover roti.

At boundary park you see stars of David, swastikas, white power among others. Around the lake walkway there’s ‘Jesus is lord’ spray painted in sky blue and right underneath in bright red it says SUCKS in bold letters. Most other parks have just random things that really lack creativity. The new thing is dipper killers or DK these are everywhere now. Some places still have brown pride from a few years ago, even a Khanda.

The city of Surrey’s engineering department has a special graffiti removal crew that supposedly cleans up public places, but it looks like they haven’t been too effective. Spray painted slogans can be still seen in most places even after a long summer.

The city gave a contract to a company for graffiti removal here. The numbers are alarming: 3900 Streetlight Poles, 960 Traffic Signal Poles and 1850 One panel or side of Traffic Controller Cabinets. Looks like kids don’t realize tax money is being wasted because of them...
