Bhai Navjot Singh is no doubt the most electrifying man on the North American tabla scene. I’ve known him for over 12 years. Even in 1993 he could play taal kherva faster than anyone I’ve ever seen.
He is truly a gifted individual. I didn’t know he was an established kitaneea too until December 2001. He has a diverse knowledge of raags unlike anyone else. It’s one thing to know something, but being able to pass that gift on to others is an entirely different skill altogether. Navjot Singh is one of the rare few who possess have the ability to pass on knowledge of tabla to others with relative ease.
Apart from musical talents Novjot Singh really shines in academia. He is currently studying to become a dentist at an acclaimed California university. So soon he will know everything about teeth as well as music…
It has recently come to my knowledge that he has been breeding dogs as a hobby for some time. And this is the main subject of today’s post.
It turned out Bhai Sahib had sold a ‘miniature bulldog’ to a couple in Ohio for $3600US online. The payment was made. Novjot Singh had shipped the dog and still has the receipts as proof. By great misfortune the dog breathed his last aboard a plane. The couple who had bought the dog decided to file a suit against poor Navjot Singh.
So he got a call from the producers of Judge Judy. Bhai Sahib agreed….
AND THE SHOW WAS ON!!!!!!!
By noon the news of bhai sahib coming on the show spread like wildfire.
Soon tens and tens worldwide were scrambling to find a network which airs Judge Judy
Forget about Jakko this without a doubt was the trial of the decade
Even the proceedings of the Air India Trial weren’t as intense as this
Every possible emotion was expressed in the 14 minutes of drama, every eye was glued to the CRT. The audience were so into it; you could sense the excitement even sitting quarter-way around the world.
The case was full of surprises, the biggest one by far was how Bhai Sahib managed to walk himself through the proceeding with utmost calm and cool. Not even top lawyers are able to display this kind of skill.
Then there were the not so serious moments. Bhai Sahib had no trouble displaying his multi-dimensional personality. Surprisingly he made Judge Judy laugh too! (FYI not possible to do most of the time)
Judge Judy: I want to teach YOU Tabla!
After a tough session at the court Bhai Sahib gulped the last glass of water and called it a day...
All I can say is it was a win win situation for all parties involved… Bhai Sahib walked away significantly rich, the plaintiffs recovered their losses and Judge Judy got ‘10 million’ viewers. And the dog, well he might very well be in better life form.
The 10 million+ viewers all had a chance to see the ‘most electrifying tabla player today’ conquer yet another daunting territory- the courtroom, not just any courtroom but one under the scrutiny of multiple cameras lenses, under the pressure that millions are watching around the world.
The lucky ones who had a chance to catch this mammoth event live will cherish it for their entire lives... the ones who missed it shell always repent, although you can have some comfort in knowing you just read about it here.
he walked away rich? didnt he LOSE?
ReplyDeleteBTW...what was the verdict??
ReplyDeleteWhy is becoming a dentist when he can become a lawyer!!!??lol
He didn't win the case, but got all his money reimbursed and $400 extra for appearing on the show.
ReplyDeleteNavjot Singh is a very honest individual, he represented himself this time because he had to clear his name. I don’t think he can defend evil criminals for a living.
On the other hand he will gladly do the sewa of helping people practice good dental hygiene and keep them denture free possibly for the rest of their lives!!!!
is this navjot singh from california?
ReplyDeleteJoty is so hot. I'll buy a kutha from him anyday, dead or alive. I love his tabla, its so entertaining.
ReplyDeleteThere are at least TWO Navjot Singh's in California. This one is the younger one, also known as "Joatee"
ReplyDeletethere rae 2 navjot singhs in california..
ReplyDeletethis one is commonly known as joty.
The dog he sold to that couple died because it was very ill when Mr. Singh sold it. This is a cause for celebration? Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteit should be a shame after being so rich still greedy enough to come to the show !!
ReplyDeleteI just watched this show on a rebroadcast and was outraged by Navjot Singh's outrageous behavior in the courtroom. He proved himself to be an unrepentant liar and treated the courtroom with disdain. I am one of the ten million viewers who will not ever do business with such an individual and I will make a point to note his name to ensure that I never accidentally or incidentally see him in the result that he becomes a dentist in California.
ReplyDeleteIn case you didn't notice, Navjot Singh lost the case and was "dressed down" by the presiding judge for being an unrepentant thief.
